Lagoons
The lagoon of La Mata is communicated with
the sea through the canal nown as "El Acequión". The
water comes in and inundates the lagoon where the water is warmed up,
going then to the lagoon of Torrevieja, from where the salt is drawn out.
The natural park can be visited following different routes, you can visit
it using the circuit for bicycles, on a circuit 5,200 metres long, relatively
separated from the marshes to avoid disturbance to the aquatic birds.
If you do the course on foot, you will enjoy a wonderful example of the
ecosystems existing in the park, such as the flora and fauna not to mention
the birds, the real protagonists. The stops are called El Altillo, El
Acequión, El Observatorio and La Pinada.
